孟连西7.3级地震是有直接前震的地震,震前分别于6月30日和7月10日发生了5.5和6.2级两次最大的直接前震。7.3级地震的ML≥5地震序列目录见表3。

根据云南地震台网资料,孟连西7.3级地震序列具有以下特征:
1.
地震强度前震大,余震小
孟连西地震序列从1995年6月30日07时03分5.5级前震开始,至1995年10月24日,云南地震台网共记录到ML≥2.0级地震979次,其中MS7.3级1次,MS6.2级1次,ML5.0~5.9级9次,ML4.0~4.9级64次,ML3.0~3.9级451次,ML2.0~2.9级453次。
图4为孟连西地震的M-t图,从图可见该次地震前震序列最大强度5.5、6.2级,而7.3级地震后的最大余震仅有5.1级,这在云南的7级以上地震序列中还是首次出现。以往云南7级以上地震的最大强余震最小为5.7级,基本上都在6级以上,由于经验的局限性,使后来的余震预测预报强度判断都偏大。
图5为7.3级地震日频度曲线图。从图4和图5可见,在序列中6.2和7.3级地震前小震的平静比较显著,特别是在6.2级地震前。

b值、h值、p值和应变释放
图6为孟连西5.5、6.2和7.3级三次地震的b值图。从图可见,如果把5.5、6.2和7.3级地震分别作为3个地震序列计算,b值分别为0.72、0.71和0.98,从b值分析前震序列的b值比7.3级主震的低。
图7为孟连7.3级地震序列p值图,5.5级地震(6.2级前)序列,p=0.67,最低(图7a),但离散度比较大;6.2级地震(7.3级前)序列的p=1.75,最高(图7b),虽然时间短,但线性很好;7.3级地震(不包括前震)序列p=1.4(图7c),整个序列p=1.15(图7d)。一般情况下前面序列的p值比后面的小,即前面的衰减慢一些[6]。5.5级地震后p值是比较小,但6.2级地震的p值比7.3级还大,因此要根据p值判定6.2级后还有7.3级地震是困难的。

孟连西5.5、6.2和7.3级地震的h值分别1.6、2.8和1.3。按刘正荣[7]的研究结果h<1为异常,是前震序列,从5.5、6.2级地震的h值也不能判别它们是前震序列。
图8为应变释放曲线,从整个序列看7.3级地震能量与整个序列能量比为0.969。如果把5.5、6.2和7.3级地震分别作为3个序列计算,主震能量与序列能量比分别为0.935、0.93和0.994。根据吴开统[6]等对大量震例的研究,主震与整个序列能量比在0.9~0.99之间,都属于主震型系列。据此也不能判断5.5和6.2级地震是前震序列。

余震分布
图9为孟连西7.3级地震序列震中分布图,从图9d看7.3级地震后的余震优势分布是北北西向的,长轴为70km;5.5级地震后的余震分布长轴为30km,方向也是北北西向的(图9a);6.2级地震的余震分布北北西和北东东方向一样长,均为27km(图9b);图9c是把5.5级和6.2级合在一起的余震分布,长轴优势方向是北北西的,长为
39km。

P波初动方向
图10为沧源地震台记录到的7.3级地震序列

P波初动符号时间进程图,5.5级地震后至6.2和
7.3级地震前,我们注意到由沧源台记录的序列地震P波初动符号一致向下。与1975年海城地震[9]相比较,发现二者有极好的相似性,这是我们在7.3级地震前的实际分析工作中能把5.5和6.2级地震判定为前震序列,把7.3级地震判定为主震的原因之一。

图1和图12是距震中500km范围内的测震台站和定点前兆观测台站分布图,震中附近特别是100km范围内只有1个前兆观测台站,200km范围内地震台站非常少。

从图可见,震中500km范围内共有51个地震台站,其中测震单项观测台11个,测震和前兆观测综合台22个,前兆观测单项台8个,前兆观测综合台10个;有测震、水氡、水位、水温、水质、地电、地倾斜、地磁、跨断层短水准、短基线、应力等22个观测项目。其中0~100km、101~200km和201~500km分别有地震台1个、4个和46个,测震台0个、3个和30个,前兆观测台1个、3个和36个,测震学以外的观测项目2个、3个和21个,台项2个、6个和115个。这些定点前兆观测台站,震前都有连续观测的资料。
此次地震前共出现26个项目68条异常(表5和图13)。其中8个项目10条地震学异常,18个项目58条前兆观测异常,各类异常的具体情况详见表5和图14~80。

表5中给出的地震学异常,基本上是在日常分析预测中使用的常规方法得到的异常,这些异常都是在7.3级地震前就看到的。地震活动性异常中的前2条是在日常分析预测中用于判断云南省是否有7级左右地震的,其中5级地震年频度指标是最经典的,滇西北地区的复发周期曲线作为窗口与云南7级地震相关也较好,因此虽然这两项都是经验性的指标,但从20世纪80年代后期我们就一直在使用,为判定云南的7级地震起到了一定的作用。其余有6条地震学异常是区域性的,是滇西南地区(表5中有区域定义)多年来一直在使用的M≥6.0级地震异常判别指标,最为突出的是中强震的密集活跃为逼近强震地点提供了最好的判据。
表5中给出的前兆观测异常,其大多数的异常判别是以笔者多年实践的认识和总结的经验作为标准的,多少会带有一些局限性。虽然不完全具备权威性,但需要说明的是,所给出的异常基本上都是与正常相比反差很大,一看就能根据以往震例经验判别出应该是属于异常的。7.3级地震前在滇西南地区1995年2月18日和4月25日分别发生了澜沧5.2级和金平5.5级地震,有的异常可能是在这两次地震前出现的,但还是把它继续作为7.3级地震的异常,主要原因是考虑了7.3级地震的影响。如澜沧和沧源的深井水温最突出的异常都是在金平地震前,但因以往单一的5级地震前这些水温没有出现过如此大量级的异常变化,因此认为虽然时间上异常主要是在金平地震前,但异常原因可能还是7.3级地震的孕育引起的,因此还是把它们作为了7.3级地震前的异常。
龙陵的水氡低值异常从1991年就开始了,在低值期间附近也发生了一些强震,7.3级地震的异常是从它附近的上次强震后开始起算的。类似的还有孟连的水氡,从1987年开始观测后波动幅度就非常大,而滇西南也处在强震活跃期,1997年后滇西南相对平静,孟连水氡也比较平稳,因此把大幅度的上下变化作为异常,但因异常期间在测点先后发生了1988年澜沧7.6级、1992年中缅交界6.7和6.8级地震,这次地震的异常是从1992年最后一次强震后开始计算的。
永胜跨断层测点虽然距孟连西7.3级地震
543km,超出500km统计范围,但因它在1995年以前出现的两次最大变化后,滇西南都发生了7级地震,在当时的判断中起了很重要的作用,在表5中还是把它列为了异常,而且作为Ⅰ类异常处理。
